Aprueban diputados Leyes Secundarias de Educación

Sep 20, 2019

Sep 20, 2019
HOUSTON – The Houston Health Department recommends people in the Houston-area keep safety in mind during recovery from flooding due to Tropical Depression Imelda.

“Good hygiene, food safety and properly sanitizing a flooded home are of the utmost importance the next few days,” said Dr. David Persse, local health authority for Houston Health Department.

The department recommends people follow the flood safety precautions below.

Food Safety
Do not eat any food that may have come into contact with floodwater. If cans have come in contact with floodwater or storm water, remove the labels, wash the cans, and dip them in a solution of 1 cup (8 oz/250 mL) of bleach in 5 gallons of water.

Cleaning and Sanitizing Your Home
When rain or flood waters get into your home, take steps to prevent mold growth. First, wash surfaces with soap and warm clean water to remove dirt and debris. Next, sanitize surfaces with household bleach. Clean it with a solution of 1 cup household liquid bleach per 5 gallons of water. Remember:Keep children and pets out of the affected area until cleanup is complete.Remove and discard items that cannot be washed and disinfected (such as, mattresses, carpeting, carpet padding, rugs, upholstered furniture, cosmetics, stuffed animals, baby toys, pillows, foam-rubber items, books, wall coverings, and most paper products).Remove and discard drywall and insulation that has been contaminated with floodwaters.Thoroughly clean all hard surfaces (such as flooring, concrete, molding, wood and metal furniture, counter tops, appliances, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures) with hot water and laundry or dish detergent.Help the drying process by using fans, air conditioning units, and dehumidifiers.Tetanus Shot
People seven years of age and older with puncture wounds or cuts that were exposed to flood water or dirt may be at risk for contracting tetanus. They will need a tetanus shot if they have not had one in the past ten years. Please consult your primary care physician or your medical home. Exposure to flood water without a wound or skin injury is not a risk for tetanus.

PROJECT FRESH HUB FOOD DISTRIBUTION EVENTS SCHEDULED FOR HOUSTON HEALTH DEPARTMENT MULTI-SERVICE CENTERS

Sep 20, 2019
HOUSTON – The Houston Health Department is continuing a partnership with Fresh Hub, a student-led program that provides people fresh nutritious produce, bread and other foods at no charge. The distribution events, held at two health department multi-service centers, target food deserts, areas with low-access to healthy food options.

Fresh Hub, a project of Bellaire High School’s Future Problem Solvers Club, collects quality excess food from grocery stores and bakeries and offers it free of charge through a collaboration with Second Servings. The program distributed more than 3,550 pounds of free food to more than 600 people through its first nine events.

Up to 40 % of food in the United States is never eaten while approximately one in eight Americans struggles to put enough food on the table, according to the National Resource Defense Council. Project Fresh Hub aims to address those challenges.

“What these Bellaire High School students have been able to accomplish through Project Fresh Hub is extremely impressive,” said Stephen Williams, director of the Houston Health Department. “These young people identified a need in the community and developed an innovative and effective approach to help those affected.”

The distribution events are free, open to anyone and pre-registration is not required. Participants are asked to arrive to the event no more than 30 minutes before start time.

The next six Fresh Hub monthly distribution events are scheduled to take place September 2019 through February 2020 at the Kashmere Multi-Service Center, 4802 Lockwood Dr, and the Sunnyside Multi-Service Center, 9314 Cullen Blvd.Saturday, Sept. 21: Sunnyside Multi-Service Center, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.Friday, Oct. 11: Kashmere Multi-Service Center, 3 p.m.-5 p.m.Monday, Nov. 25: Sunnyside Multi-Service Center, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.Monday, Dec. 23: Kashmere Multi-Service Center, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.Friday, Jan. 17: Kashmere Multi-Service Center, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.Saturday, Feb. 15: Suunnyside Multi-Service Center, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.Fresh Hub was recently awarded first place in the human services category at Future Problem Solving Program International, a dynamic international program in which students apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to hypothetical future situations.

MEXICALI, MEXICO (Sept. 19, 2019): Fighters from the Diaz Jr. vs. Cuadro undercard hosted a final press conference today at the Lucerna Hotel in Mexicali, Mexico ahead of the Sept. 21 edition of Golden Boy Fight Night on Facebook Watch. The undercard is led by the co-main event between hometown favorite Leonardo “El Leon” Baez (16-2, 9 KOs), who announced his signing with Golden Boy, taking on Venezuelan contender Edixon Perez (19-4, 4 KOs) in a 10-round defense of his NABA Super Bantamweight Title. This Saturday’s fights will take place at the Auditorio del Estado in Mexicali, Mexico and will be streamed live globally on Facebook Watch via the Golden Boy Fight Night Page.

Below is what today’s participants had to say at the press conference:

LEONARDO BAEZ, NABA Super Bantamweight Champion:

“I’m very prepared. This fight is very important for me because I’ll be fighting right here in my hometown of Mexicali. I want to thank Golden Boy for taking this card here to my home to make the first defense of my NABA title. I’m happy, I’m motivated, and I’m prepared. ¡Arriba Mexicali!”

EDIXON PEREZ, Super Bantamweight Contender:

“I know this will be a tough fight. But I have come very well prepared. I’ve come to give a great rival against Baez on Sept. 21. I invite everyone to come out and watch this fight because I’m coming very well prepared.”

JESUS CUARDO, Super Featherweight Contender:

“I hope we have a great fight this Saturday. They may think I’m a trampoline. They may think they can use me as a stepping stone. But that’s not how things are going to go. I came to win this fight. If I lose this fight, it will be the last thing I do in my career.”

ANGEL BELTRAN, Welterweight Contender:

“We are very prepared for this fight against Dilan Loza. We know it’s a tough fight, but it’s something we have to do. This was an opportunity given to us by Gladiator Promotions and Golden Boy. I think that opportunities arise to be taken. That’s what we are going to do. We are very prepared. We are ready to give 100% in the ring. We will show who is best on Saturday.”

DILAN LOZA, Welterweight Boxer:

“We’re anxious for the fight. We are two days away from this great battle. More than anything, we are very much prepared and ready for that great day. We will go in there with everything.”

JAN SALVATIERRA, Flyweight Prospect:

“I want to thank Golden Boy for this great opportunity. I want to thank my trainers and managers the Saucedo Brothers from Westside Boxing Club for their support. I have prepared a lot for this fight. I’ve prepared to put everything on the line. You will see that on Sept. 21”

ROBERTO DIAZ, Head Matchmaker of Golden Boy:

“It’s a great honor to be here again to present a great event of Mexico vs. Venezuela. Two great fights and an undercard card full of prospects, which are the promising fighters of tomorrow. In Saturday’s undercard, we’ll have a young man who I just got to know a few months ago. He had a great victory by taking the title away from the undefeated boxer Alberto Melian. I’m talking about Leonardo Baez. He came with a lot of hunger and was set on bringing the title back home.”

“At the same time, I want to welcome Leonardo Baez to the Golden Boy family. I’m glad and honored. I know you will have a great career. I’ve heard it from many former champions. You’ll be defending your title for the first time against Edixon Perez. It’s a tough fight but we have all the confidence in you because we see in you a future world champion.”

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 18, 2019): Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico and Russian warrior Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (34-3-1, 29 KOs) hosted a press conference today at Union Station in Los Angeles, Calif. to formally announce their 12-round fight for the WBO Light Heavyweight World Title. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be streamed live on DAZN. Below is what today’s participants had to say at the presser.  CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion: “I’m very grateful to all the fans as always. I’m very motivated here, it’s an honor for me toshare the ring with a fighter like Kovalev who I met in 2012. Now we’re about to makehistory. I know it’s going to be the most difficult fight of my professional career. I will give the best I have in the ring and that day we can yell “Viva Mexico.” SERGEY KOVALEV, Current WBO Light Heavyweight World Champion and Three-Time Light Heavyweight World Champion: “I’m very happy to be here back in Los Angeles. Thanks to God and thanks to Canelo and his team for making this opportunity to get this fight. I think this is a big test for me in my boxing career because this is one of the best fighters in the world in boxing right now. I’m happy and I am excited. Thank you very much for the support.” EDDY REYNOSO, Head Trainer and Manager of Canelo Alvarez: “Thank you to Golden Boy and DAZN – this was a very difficult fight to make happen but the fight is now here. Only the big fighters and those that leave a footprint become these type of fighters. We know Kovalev well and we know the challenge that we are facing. He’s a great fighter that leaves everything in the ring and in one punch, he could end the fight. And we know it’s going to be a great challenge. We want Saul to be a champion in four weight classes,.” JOSE “CHEPO” REYNOSO, Trainer and Manager of Canelo Alvarez: “I’m nostalgic and cannot help but remember the beginnings of all this. To look back and see everything-all the victories that Saul has given myself and my son, and the future victories, makes me happy. The Reynosos have been with Saul for over 15 years-ever since he was a child. We trust that he will gain victory here.” BUDDY MCGIRT, Trainer of Sergey Kovalev: “Both these guys are true champions. Canelo, I’ve always admired you. Your trainers did agreat job with you. I gotta admit that. I really take my hat off to you for having the balls fortaking a step up and not having a catch weight and stepping up to the challenge. Sergey, Ilove you to death, I respect you for accepting the challenge. In all honestly, the only loserson November 2 are the people who don’t want the fight or come to the fight.” EGIS KLIMAS, Manager of Sergey Kovalev: “I don’t think this fight needs to be introduced. When you hear the names Canelo Alvarez,Krusher Kovalev, it says all that’s going to happen on November 2. I don’t need to talkabout Sergey – everybody knows who he is in boxing, and regarding Canelo, they knowwhat they mean when they say – grandes kajones.”
OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy: “Canelo hopes to become the fourth Mexican to win a world title in four divisions, with the only other ones being Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and Jorge Arce. One big difference is that Canelo is at a higher weight class. And this opens the possibility for many more matchups, and bigger opponents with strong punching and star power. When talking with Canelo about his career goals, he said he wanted to make history, and fight the best. This is why we had to be very strategic and thoughtful in planning out his next fight and while it may have taken a bit longer than we wanted, we know that it was worth the wait. Canelo has been preparing for this moment and we know that on Nov. 2 he’ll write a new chapter in boxing history by becoming the second Mexican ever to win a world title in the 175-pound division (Light Heavyweight). Together with DAZN, we’re committed to making boxing more accessible and affordable by giving fans the best fights – without the price tag of pay-per-view. Historic fights are a hallmark of this company and Golden Boy continues to deliver the biggest fights of the year. November 2 will be no exception, and we expect a great performance by our champion, Canelo Alvarez, as he becomes the new WBO Light Heavyweight World Champion.” “I’m happy to announce that with a major bout like this one, the fans deserve the bestundercard possible. Our next big major star in the making, Ryan Garcia, will be fighting inLas Vegas. He’s fighting Duno-it’s a fight the fans wanted and it’s going to be a tough fight.” BERNARD HOPKINS, Hall of Famer and Golden Boy Business Partner: “I know a little bit about history. And for Canelo to take a big leap from 160 to 175, to dareto be great, to make history, anyone that’s not educated in boxing history, wouldn’t knowwhat I’m talking about right now. But just in case you want to learn because it’s never toolate, it’s very historic to be in the position of Canelo. And to bite off challenges andchallenge himself and dare to be great to make history. As Oscar said, not only Mexicanhistory, but also boxing history. There’s very few fighters who have accomplished 160 to175 and been successful. As you know, you’re standing and hearing from one right now.I have a personal feeling about making history because I’ve been there and done thatand now it’s Canelo’s time. I understand what it’s like to be in there with the Krusher. Heearned that and I respect that and I respect that to this day. Enjoy this historic fight andwatch Canelo Alvarez – who I call the Evil Knievel in boxing – who’s taken on the bestso far and is now taking on the best at light heavyweight.” KATHY DUVA, CEO of Main Events: “I want to give special thanks to Sergey Kovalev and Canelo Alvarez – as a lifelongboxing fan, not just as a promoter. Unfortunately, sometime around the turn of the lastcentury, boxing began to lose its way. Instead of building a legacy, avoidingunnecessary risk became the goal and to this day, some fighters are praised for it.Competitions suffer because of that. When we first met, Sergey was so adamant that hewanted to test his skills against the very best. He wanted to find out how good he reallywas. Canelo, you may have bit off more than you can chew, but that’s okay. Great fighters are not afraid to challenge themselves. And win or lose, history will reward you for taking a risk. Congratulations Ryan, you will not be the only spectacular young fighter on the card that night, because also sharing that ring is another intelligent, well-spoken, absolutelyfantastic young fighter – his name is Evan Holyfield. And he is the son of the greatEvander Holyfield. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to work with Evander’s son after allthese years. You’re all going to see him and meet him, and I think you will all be thrilled.”
RYAN GARCIA, Lightweight Contender: “I want to thank the fans for coming out because it’s a weekday, you guys didn’t need tocome here. Thank you guys for coming. I’m excited. The co-main event on the biggest cardof the year. I’m so honored. It’s a big night. I get to fight the guy I wanted to fight most,Romero Duno. They all said I was scared and I was worried about him and now I have thechance to get my respect and show everyone I’m a real fighter. Everybody stay tuned. It’sgoing to be a big fight. Thank you to everybody for believing in me and thank you to Golden Boy for getting the job done. Let’s make history.” JOSEPH MARKOWSKI, Executive Vice President, DAZN North America: “In one year’s time, I believe we’ve managed to assemble the best schedule in the history ofboxing. Let’s just look where we are: Canelo vs. Kovalev – boxing’s biggest star jumping uptwo weight classes; Ruiz vs. Joshua II – the rematch of the biggest heavyweight upset insome year; KSI vs. Logan Paul, bringing millions of new fans to the sport of boxing; GGG,back in title contention from MSG; the list goes on for DAZN. To our subscribers, you’re infor a tremendous end to 2019 and tremendous year to come.” Canelo vs. Kovalev is a 12-round fight for the WBO Light Heavyweight World Title presented by Golden Boy, Main Events and Krusher Promotions. Roy Jones Jr. Boxing & Joey Gilbert Promotions Return to Reno, NV

Sep 20, 2019
Next wave continuing rich Reno boxing history

Inaugural RJJ Boxing & Silver Legacy event
Co-promoted with Joey Gilbert Promotions

Event streaming live and exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS

LAS VEGAS (September 18, 2019) – The next wave of Reno boxers will continue its rich boxing tradition October 25 on “RJJ Boxing on UFC FIGHT PASS®,” co-promoted by Joey Gilbert Promotions in association with Silver Legacy Resort Casino at THE ROW in Reno, Nevada.

The event will be streamed live and exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports, starting at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT, from inside the Grande Exposition Hall at Silver Legacy.

Local boxers such as featherweight Ricardo Lucio Galvan (2-0, 2 KOs) and super lightweight Wilfred Mariano (1-0, 1 KO) are all slated to fight on the Oct. 25th card against opponents to be determined.

Organized boxing was held during the early 1880’s in small mining towns in the Northwest section of Nevada, professional boxing matches were conducted there later that century.

Hall of Fame promoter Tex Richard and legendary heavyweight Jack Johnson first put Reno on the boxing map on July 4, 1910, when World heavyweight champion successfully defending his title against James J. Jeffries, stopping him in the 15th round at what was reportedly the only venue ever built for a single boxing event. When President William Taft declined Richard’s offer to referee, Richards became the third man in the ring. Boxing stars including Jake Kilrain, Tommy Burns, and Abe Attell were introduced to the reported crowd of 16,528.

Richard first brought another Hall of Fame heavyweight champion, Jack Dempsey, to Reno in 1915 for his ninth pro fight, when Dempsey stopped Emmanuel Campbell in the fourth round at Airdrome Arena. To fight, Dempsey had to “ride the rails” from Utah to Reno, stored away on a train with hobos. Dempsey returned three years later to knockout Jack Moran in the opening round at Moana Spring Arena.

Dempsey may have been involved in unsanctioned fights in Reno as well. Desperate for money during the early part of his boxing career, Dempsey is infamous for walking into saloons and saying, “I can’t sing, and I can’t dance, but I can lick any SOB in the house.”

Reno-based Gilbert’s first three (2001-2003) and last three (2010) pro fights were held in Reno, where he had a 7-2 (6 KOs) pro record.

Gilbert commented, “Having fought as both an amateur and a professional at these same properties; THE ROW, Eldorado, Silver Legacy, and Circus Circus, which are like a second home to me and all Nevada boxing alumni, it’s really an honor to bring boxing and combat sports back to Northern Nevada, a true fight town, and to provide world class entertainment and an incredible digital production through Roy Jones JR Boxing and UFC FIGHT PASSs, in a partnership with the very casinos and environment that helped make me who I am today; I couldn’t be more delighted to be a part of this opportunity with Eldorado Resorts and UFC Fight Pass through Roy Jones Jr Promotions. I’m looking forward to a prosperous partnership with everyone involved, including the local community and all fight fans in the area.”

Hall of Fame referee Mills Lane was an adopted son of Reno, arguably the No. 1 referee in the world of boxing, during his high-profile stretch of activity.
