Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another man at 4700 Market Street about 9:10 a.m. on March 7.

The suspect, Lavonie Demon Land (b/m, 35), is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 228th State District Court.  A booking photo of Land is attached to this news release.

One victim, Jose Juvenal Gonzalez, 30, was transported to an area hospital where he died on March 9.  The second victim, Jose Miguel Gonzales, 20, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Turner and Officer J. Flores reported:

The victims, who are brothers, were at a convenience store at the above address when one of them began arguing with an unknown suspect.  The suspect then produced a gun and began shooting, striking both victims multiple times.  The suspect then fled the scene.
