City Services Return to Normal Hours on Tuesday

All City of Houston offices will return to regular business hours on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Please scroll to the bottom of this page for information on specific services.

Our 12 warming centers will remain open Monday night. I am grateful to the city employees and partner organizations who have made it possible to provide a warm, safe refuge for Houstonians facing freezing temperatures. Since opening the centers last Saturday, I have visited each location and am grateful to everyone providing around-the-clock support to those staying there.

City – County Collaboration Makes a Difference
On Monday, I joined Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones at the Bayland Community Center to provide an update on the weather response and distribute blankets to residents seeking refuge from the bitter cold.
This is what effective city–county collaboration looks like. We serve many of the same communities, and by working together, we are able to bring our people, resources, and expertise together to meet real needs in real time. I am grateful to our dedicated teams and to the American Red Cross for their support at Bayland and at City of Houston warming centers across our city.
CONTINUING OUR WORK

Please join me in thanking our City of Houston employees for their dedicated work throughout this storm. Tonight, I want to recognize the BARC animal enforcement officers, who have worked around the clock to rescue animals in distress and bring them to safe, warm shelter.

I also urge everyone to check on your pets, your neighbors, and to take steps to protect plants and pipes as we continue through this cold weather.

As temperatures rise, leaks or burst pipes from the freeze may appear. If you find a burst pipe, shut off your water at the main valve, open faucets to drain the remaining water and contact a licensed plumber for repairs.
Call 311 if you need help finding your main shutoff valve.
