Persons of Interest Sought in Fatal Shooting 2520 Calumet Street

Persons of Interest Sought in Fatal Shooting at 2520 Calumet Street
Houston police are asking for the public’s help identifying two persons of interest wanted for questioning in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 2520 Calumet Street about 8:55 p.m. on January 20.

The individuals are described only as two black males. Surveillance video of the persons of interest, who are not suspects at this time, are attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as James Tolen, 41.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. LaFour and Detectives M. Althaus, R. Waterwall and L. Lovelace reported:

Officers responded to a robbery call at the above address and found a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

After speaking to a witness, detectives learned two armed suspects approached the victim’s vehicle and attempted to rob them. The victim and the passenger complied with the suspects’ demands and exited the vehicle.

The suspects realized the vehicle would not start and approached the victim again for the key. A physical altercation ensued and a suspect fired his weapon, striking the victim. The suspect then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

Further investigation identified two persons of interest with who investigators would like to speak with.
