Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 500 West 20th Street
Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 500 West 20th Street about 11:50 p.m. on March 6.

The suspect, Darius Dewayne Hall, 18, is charged with capital murder in the 496th Criminal District Court. Hall’s booking photo is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim, 61, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Nicotra and J. Wallschlaeger reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call outside an apartment complex at the above address where a female had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Officers learned a vehicle associated with the victim was missing and evidence of a robbery was present. The owner of the vehicle was located and they reported the vehicle missing.

Officers with HPD’s Westside Division and Central Division’s Crime Suppression Teams, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Bellaire Police Department and West University Police Department later located the vehicle. A vehicle pursued ensued and at the conclusion of the pursuit, the suspect then barricaded himself inside an empty apartment at 3131 Southwest Freeway. He was later taken into custody.

Investigators consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the suspect was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County jail.
