| HOUSTON – In case you missed it, Mayor John Whitmire appeared on CNN News Central this morning to discuss the tragic ICE shooting that killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo on July 7 in Houston.
During the interview:
- Mayor Whitmire called for a moratorium on ICE enforcement actions so that ICE agents are trained in de-escalation techniques. He believes deadly ICE enforcement actions must stop.
- The mayor reiterated his support for a transparent, thorough, and independent investigation to build trust and confidence in the community.
- Announced that he directed HPD Chief Diaz to send a letter yesterday formally requesting that the Texas Rangers conduct an independent investigation, aiming to ensure accountability and public trust.
- Reminded Houstonians that the City of Houston has provided 911 audio and METRO videotape to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for use in its investigation.
