Annual Bike to Work Day Ride Returns
to Downtown Houston on May 20
HOUSTON – The City of Houston is celebrating Bike Month in May by bringing back the annual Bike To Work Day downtown ride on Friday, May 20. The ride will begin at 7:15 a.m., at the Buffalo Bayou Park Visitor Center at Lost Lake, 3422 Allen Parkway, and end at the Hermann Square Reflection Pond at City Hall, 901 Bagby.
This will be the first in-person group ride in two years since the pandemic prompted the City to shift gears and encourage “Bike to Wherever Day” independent rides.
During Bike Month, Houston joins cities across the nation by recognizing bicycles as a viable, safe, sustainable and healthy, transportation option and form of recreation.
“Cycling is an important piece of the transportation network in Houston,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “Whether riding to work, the grocery store, or for personal wellness, cyclists have the right to safely enjoy all the City has to offer. I look forward to the ride, and hope to see a wonderful turnout for this first group ride since the pandemic.”
The City of Houston is collaborating with our partners to make Houston a Gold-Level Bike Friendly City by 2027, and continues to work on the extensive network of on-street high-comfort bike lanes and off-street trails outlined in the Houston Bike Plan. Currently Houston has a total of 386 miles of high-comfort bikeways and 125 miles in design or construction.
If you can’t join the downtown bike ride, consider riding your bike to work on May 20 or another day in Bike Month. Share pictures of where your ride takes you and tag the Houston Bikeways social media with the hashtag #BTWD2022. Follow us at: Twitter: @HoustonBikePlan
