Dedication Ceremony Celebrates Completion of Liberty Street Mural
Leesburg, VA (October 18, 2021) – Mayor Kelly Burk along with members of the Commission on Public Art (COPA) celebrated the completion of Liberty Street art mural on Friday, October 15.
In September 2020, the Leesburg Town Council approved a proposal from Sung Hee Kim, owner of Sagetopia, for a mural that would depict flowers and the word “Flourish” on the west facing wall of the Town Shop, located at 204 Liberty Street, SW. The Friends of Leesburg Public Arts (FOLPA) provided funding for the project in the amount of $250.
Following its completion, Kim requested an expansion to the mural in May 2021. More flowers were added, including the word “Growth”, to the north facing wall. The entire project was completed in August 2021.
A number of volunteers were involved in the project including Melissa Swanchara, Connor McDonald, Sung Hee Kim, Molly Hwang, Kyle Iamsuri, Haley Watson, Ruth Han, and Kim P. Kim.
Sagetopia is also the creator behind the “Discover the Charm” mural also located in the Liberty Street parking lot. Additional information about the mural can be found on www.sagetopia.com/flourish.
