Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 1233 South Kirkwood Road

 

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 1233 South Kirkwood Road about 12:15 a.m. on February 21.

The deceased male is identified as Pedro Cantu, 62.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Rodriguez and M. Cater reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a burglary of a residence in progress at the above address. As officers arrived, they heard at least one gunshot from inside the residence. Officers located and detained a male with a firearm. They also found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male, Mr. Cantu, to an area hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased.

Officers also found another male suffering from a superficial gunshot wound. He was also transported to an area hospital.

Detectives learned that the armed male, 35, and Mr. Cantu were residents of the home. And the injured male had broken into the residence. The armed male was attempting to defend the residence, shooting the suspect and accidentally striking Mr. Cantu.

The suspect, Rodney Dushaw Yoder, 44, was subsequently arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation in the 209th Criminal District Court. Yoder’s booking photo is attached to this news release.

The investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing.
