Leesburg Police Donate Surplus Equipment to Ukraine

Items will benefit equine veterinary practitioners in war-torn country.

Police Donation Leesburg, VA (June 21, 2022) – On Tuesday, members of the Leesburg Town Council and Leesburg Police Department gathered with representatives from the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP), a U.S. based 501c3 organization, to recognize a recent vote by the Town Council to donate surplus Police Department equipment to benefit equine efforts in Ukraine.

The Town will donate a total of 80 pieces of surplus police safety equipment: 45 ballistic vests, nine ballistic helmets, and 26 heavy plates to aid equine veterinarians in Ukraine.

Representatives from ISELP had reached out to the Town in May 2022 to inquire about the donation of tactical equipment. The group offered assistance in navigating the facilitation of the donation directly to equine providers in Ukraine, who are continuing to provide their services to the equine population as the war continues. Following approval by both the Town Attorney and Chief of Police, the Town Council unanimously voted June 14 to donate the equipment.

“We are excited to do our part to support the humanitarian efforts abroad with the donation of this much-needed safety equipment,” Police Chief Gregory Brown stated.
