One Suspect Arrested, Another Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 312 West 9th Street
Charges have been filed against one suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 312 West 9th Street about 4:05 a.m. on Saturday (February 19).

The suspect, Kevin Mejia, 19, is charged with murder in the 351st State District Court. A booking photo of Mejia is attached to this news release.

A second unidentified male suspect remains at large.

A third suspect, Jason Moore, 24, was pronounced deceased on scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Dudley and K. Heaverlo reported:

Officers responded to a shooting in progress call at the above address and upon arrival found the deceased male outside near the front door.

Initial reports indicated a suspect may still be inside the residence and HPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) responded.  After SWAT made entry into the house, no suspects were found.

Further investigation determined three people forced their way into the residence and fired multiple shots at the person inside the house. A person inside a back bedroom heard the gunfire, and began shooting his own weapon at the suspects.  Two of the three suspects fled.  The third suspect had been struck by the gunfire and was the male, later identified as Mr. Moore, found outside the residence.

Mejia was subsequently identified as a suspect in this incident and he was taken into custody on Saturday (February 19).

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information in this case or on the identity of the wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or to speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
