HTV to Provide TV Pool Coverage
The staging of fire apparatus and the firefighter procession to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for a memorial service honoring fallen Houston Firefighter Marcelo “Ox” Garcia III will necessitate the closure of several streets in downtown Houston the morning of November 13, 2024. Garcia lost his life in the line of duty on November 6 while battling a warehouse fire determined to be an act of arson. Authorities filed criminal charges and made an arrest.

Road Closures:

  • Fannin St. closed between Pierce and Jefferson St. from 6 a.m. to noon.
  • San Jacinto St. closed between Pierce St. and Jefferson St. from 6 a.m. to noon.
  • St. Joseph Parkway closed between Pierce St. and Jefferson St. from 6 a.m. to noon.
  • Louisiana St. closed between Pierce St. and Jefferson St. from 6 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
  • Jefferson St. closed from Smith St. to San Jacinto St. from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
  • Smith St. closed between Pierce St. and Jefferson St. from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

The memorial service for Garcia will take place at 9 a.m. on November 13, 2024, at the
Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. A procession of firefighters and apparatus will begin at 8 a.m. from Houston Fire Station 8, located at 1818 Louisiana St. The service will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/HoustonTelevision and https://www.houstontx.gov/htv/.

Memorial Service Details:

    • Processional: Step-off at 8 a.m. from Houston Fire Station 8 at 1818 Louisiana St. The route proceeds down Louisiana St. to Jefferson St. and continues to the
      Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
    • Memorial Service: Begins at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas 77002
