| Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal crash that occurred at 7900 Westheimer Road about 11:55 p.m. on Friday (May 29).
The suspect, Djamal Benamirouche, 48, is charged with criminally negligent homicide in the 228th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Benamirouche is attached to this news release.
The identity of the victim, 39, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Bui and Officer V. Taylor reported:
The driver of a silver Lexus ES350 was driving eastbound on Westheimer at the above address as well as the operator of a gray Kawasaki ZX1 motorcycle in adjacent lanes. The driver of the Lexus abruptly changed lanes multiple times in an attempt to get over to the far lane to make a u-turn. The Lexus then struck the motorcycle, causing the rider to be ejected. The motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested and charged for his role in the fatal crash.
The investigation is continuing.
