| Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 6031 Fondren Road about 9:15 a.m. on March 11.
The suspect, Emily Perez, 18, is charged with manslaughter in the 183rd Criminal District Court.. A booking photo of Perez is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Diego Cornejo, 18.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp reported:
Officers responded to a shooting at a residence at the above address and located a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male, later identified as Mr. Cornejo, to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation determined the male was shot while he and his girlfriend were handling a firearm. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office it was determined the shooting would be referred to a Harris County Grand Jury.
On Wednesday(Sept. 23), Emily Perez was arrested by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders’ Task Force. Perez was subsequently charged for her role in this incident and booked into the Harris County Jail.
