Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of two other persons at 4818 Dacoma Street about 1:15 a.m. on January 16.
The suspect, Dezmond Garcia, 33, is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court. A booking photo of Garcia is attached to this news release.
Garcia is accused for his role in the death of Jose Lopez, Jr., 42, and the wounding of a man, 43, and a woman, 19.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Watson and Detective R. Waterwall reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a bar at the above address. Upon arrival, they found the three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All were transported to area hospitals. Mr. Lopez was later pronounced deceased on January 26. The two other victims survived their wounds.
Witnesses reported the victims and an unknown male suspect were arguing near the entrance to the bar when the suspect produced a gun and shot the two men and the woman. The male suspect fled the scene in a white, four-door vehicle.
Further investigation led to the identity of Garcia as the suspect in this case and charges were filed on him on Wednesday (June 15). Members of the HPD Major Offenders Division Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Garcia on Wednesday without incident. |
