Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the shooting of a man at 211 East 28th Street about 10:35 p.m. last Friday (August 13).
The suspect, Andrew Issac Martinez (H/m, 21), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 174th State District Court. He is not in custody. A 2018 booking photo of Martinez is attached to this news release.
The victim, Hilario Melo, 50, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective T. Johnson reported:
Patrol officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the residence at the above address and were advised that Mr. Melo had been dating the suspect’s mother. The suspect, Martinez, was upset with Melo because he believed he was mistreating his mother. Martinez demanded Melo to get out of a vehicle to fight him. Melo was in the car with the Martinez’s mother and refused to get out of the vehicle. At that time, Martinez shot Melo through the passenger window and then fled the scene.
Melo suffered wounds to his chest, right arm and abdomen. Paramedics transported him to the hospital. Martinez fled in white Dodge Ram pickup truck with unknown license plates.
