HOUSTON – Houston White Cane Safety Day is thrilled to announce its 17th annual event, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, at the University of Houston. This free event promises a day filled with educational activities, entertainment, and prizes, all while promoting awareness and understanding of individuals with vision loss and blindness who rely on the white cane for safe travel.

The event will kick off with an official proclamation from the Houston Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, highlighting the city’s commitment to supporting individuals with vision loss.

Additional Event Highlights Include

–  Jersey Mikes Lunch – Participants who register in advance will enjoy a complimentary lunch, courtesy of Jersey Mike’s.
– Live Performances – Experience captivating live performances that celebrate the accomplishments and independence of individuals with vision loss.
– Awareness March – Participants will have the opportunity to join the awareness march to show support for the community and champion their equality.
– Door Prizes/Grand Prize – Attendees will have the opportunity to win several door prizes throughout the day. One lucky participant will be the crown jewel receiving the Grand Prize of a $1,000 Carnival Cruise Lines gift card.
Houston White Cane Safety Day has a rich history, initiated in 2007 by three passionate advocates. It has since grown into one of the nation’s largest and longest-running White Cane Safety Day celebrations. This annual event is dedicated to fostering awareness and understanding while celebrating the achievements and independence of individuals who use white canes for navigation.
