School Zone Traffic Enforcement
Leesburg, VA – The Leesburg Police Department will be conducting its annual “Traffic Safety Blitz” to coincide with the start of the 2022-2023 school year. The blitz consists of a traffic enforcement campaign that targets school zones. Electronic message boards will be deployed at different locations throughout the Town of Leesburg to reinforce safe driving behaviors, to remind motorists that schools are back in session, and to remind motorists to watch for children.
The high visibility enforcement campaign will be conducted by the Leesburg Police Department with assistance from the Virginia State Police beginning on or about August 25th, with the objective of reducing the number of traffic crashes occurring in and around schools. Specific emphasis will be placed on speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, stop light & stop sign violations, seat belt & child safety seat usage, as well as pedestrian violations.
During the remainder of the school year, the department will target school zone areas based on statistical analysis with a goal of achieving a reduction in both personal injury and property damage crashes. Pedestrian and motorist safety is paramount to the Leesburg Police Department and can only be attained with the cooperation of community members.
