Leesburg Town Council Funds Remediation Study for Liberty Street Parking Lot

Liberty Street Parking LotLeesburg, VA (March 30, 2023) – The Leesburg Town Council has authorized a remediation study for the Liberty Street parking lot. The study will evaluate soil conditions of the property, which was previously used as a municipal dump during the mid-20th century.

The remediation study will investigate and characterize the material contained beneath the pavement in the former dump site. The study results are expected to provide an estimated remediation cost to clean up the site, should redevelopment occur in the future.

The March 28 action by the Town Council authorizes the Town Manager to sign a task order with WSP USA Environment & Infrastructure Inc. in the amount of $130,961.  The study report is expected this fall.

In a separate action Tuesday, March 28, the Council also voted to continue their review of a  redevelopment proposal for the property submitted by a development partnership in response to the Town’s issuance of a Request for Proposals for the site. This action does not commit the Town to approve the proposal.
