BALTIMORE, MD. (Saturday, May 27, 2023) – Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) called on community members to join Safe Streets Baltimore to kickoff the 3rd annual Safe Summer program that was held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Druid Hill Park.

“The Safe Summer program has been an integral part of our broader public safety and youth engagement strategy, and, as the program heads into its third summer, it could not be more important,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “We know that accessibility to necessary resources and engaging activities plays an important role in keeping our communities safe during the summer months. Safe Summer is about convening communities and providing residents with ways to celebrate with each other and promote peace across the City.”

During the summer months, Safe Streets sites will host events, activities and resources for Baltimore residents to promote peace and public safety across neighborhoods. Residents joined various Safe Streets sites for an officially kick off the program on Saturday, May 27 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and enjoyed giveaways, face painting, music, food, and more. Notably, this year, the Safe Summer programming will be bolstered by additional programming throughout the city as part of the City’s B’More this Summer youth engagement strategy.

“We are thrilled to bring back Safe Summer programming for its 3rd year,” said MONSE Executive Director Shantay Jackson. “This programming offers Baltimoreans a sense of community as we all work to keep our youth busy, families engaged and residents safe throughout the summer. In conjunction with Mayor Scott’s larger summer youth engagement strategy, we know that this year’s Safe Summer will be one to remember!”
