Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 6013 Schroeder Street that occurred about 3 a.m. on October 8.
The suspect, Guy Cornell Jones (b/m, 29), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. A prior booking photo of Jones, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the death of Jason Smith-Jones, 26.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Perez and J. Escobar reported:
HPD officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found Mr. Smith-Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. Smith-Jones was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Smith-Jones’ mother stated she was asleep when she heard a gunshot. She then went toward the kitchen and and saw her son on the floor.
A witness stated a black male, approximately five feet nine inches and in his late 20s, was seen fleeing with a gun in his hand.
Further investigation identified Guy Cornell Jones as the suspect in this case. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and Jones was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.
