Tetra Tech Honors City of Houston Mayor and City Council with annual Francisco Sanchez Public Service Award
HOUSTON – The Tetra Tech Francisco Sanchez Public Service Award was presented to Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston, and the Houston City Council at the December 6th city council meeting by John Buri, Tetra Tech’s Director of Post Disaster Programs.

Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston city council were selected for their dedicated response to the city’s recovery after Hurricane Harvey.

The City of Houston’s success was achieved by a team effort; the city’s Chief Recovery Officer Stephen Costello and Finance Department Deputy Director Arif Rasheed were also recognized for their contributions and joined by several local subcontractors who served a vital part of the effort.

“Through their diligence and hard work, they have secured a total of $600 million in federal funds to increase resilience to future disasters, including the $350 million received for rebuilding damaged properties and infrastructure,” said Buri. “The strong case they made to FEMA enabled them to attain additional funding needed for major renovations to the municipal courts building.”

The Tetra Tech Francisco Sanchez Public Service Award was established in 2022 in honor of its first recipient, the former Harris County Emergency Management Director. The recipient is selected annually for going above and beyond the call of duty during or after a disaster by Tetra Tech management.

«We worked together as a team to build a stronger, more sustainable, and more resilient city after Harvey,»   said Mayor Sylvester Turner. «During my eight years as mayor, Houston has faced seven federally declared disasters – from floods, a historic freeze, a pandemic and more. We always responded quickly to ensure our infrastructure was rebuilt and residents, especially the most vulnerable, would not be left behind. The City of Houston is grateful to be the recipient of this award, and I thank Tetra Tech for the recognition.»
