HOUSTON – Mayor Sylvester Turner encourages all youth aged 16-24 to apply for paid internships through his signature Hire Houston Youth internship program. While thousands of internships are available across the city, including in the private and non-profit sectors, the deadline for youth to apply for City of Houston positions is Friday, April 8.
Youth, ages 16-24 can apply to eight weeks paid summer jobs and internships through Hire Houston Youth, who serves as the facilitator to connect youth to local jobs where they are empowered with an «earn and learn» opportunity in Houston’s dynamic economy.
«An able and ready workforce is critical to ensure a strong economic future for Houston. I am committed to providing access to internships and job opportunities for our young people who live in the city,» said Mayor Sylvester Turner.
Additionally, we continue to encourage employers to list their intern positions with Hire Houston Youth to increase visibility. More than 30,000 youth have completed training in job readiness since 2016 through the Hire Houston Youth initiative. There are multiple ways for employers to participate:
1. Share your existing employment and internship opportunities on our online portal, gaining exposure to tens of thousands of diverse youth and young adults.
2. Sponsor a youth to receive paid summer employment and a $4,200 tax-deductible contribution.
